As of Apr 2025:
  • Started a new company, details to follow.
  • Enjoying the reviews for my first book.
  • Making a philosophy tool using embedding models.
  • Making a automatic scenario writer using language models.
  • In the Bay for a bit.
Intake
  • Relatively serious about music again.

  • Becoming less well-rounded
My background is mixed: a lot of philosophy, a bit of economics, a bit of stats, a bit of computer science, a bit of computational linguistics, a bit of epidemiology, a bit of literary criticism. But in research, much depends on you mastering one thing or one cluster of things.

So I am trying to become less rounded. This boils down to more maths. One carrot: I aim to fully understand the great explanations: set theory, measure theory, relativity, QM, evolutionary dynamics, Bayes, reinforcement learning, and computational complexity.
    Pretending to be an academic
I'm a visiting scholar at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence at Cambridge. It is nice to help and get ideas (and maintain library access).
    Giving a damn
I started teaching and mentoring. I am head of camp at ESPR. I'm an external coach for 80,000 Hours. I speak for the dead.
